LAST CHANCE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN 2011 (dec. 27th, 2011)
During these last days of 2011, as we reflect on the many blessings we enjoy this holiday season, please take a moment to remember the children you have helped throughout this year. Your gifts provided millions of life-saving meals to children around the world and around the corner.
Each week we must refuse requests for more meals for more children in need because we lack the funds to purchase additional ingredients. EVERY child deserves proper nutrition to grow up strong and healthy!
Kids Against Hunger is providing nutritious meals for only 23 cents each.
Please help us by clicking on the link below to make your one-time, tax-deductible end of the year donation or register for automatic monthly donations.
We appreciate your support!

2.5 MILLION MEALS SHIPPING TO THE HORN OF AFRICA (Sept. 28th, 2011)
This just in from our Cincinnati (OH) satellite: "Thanks everyone for your help in getting Kids Against Hunger's food to us for the Horn of Africa. The short video below gives you an idea of what 2 ½ million meals looks like on pallets – on the way to the goal of 4 ½ million meals.
After final negotiation with the shippers, the first two containers left today; another two tomorrow, etc. They are lifted onto rail cars in Cincinnati and then onto ships in New Jersey.
The goal remains 15 rail cars of Kids Against Hunger's food leaving here as soon as we can."
Please continue to encourage other satellites to gather their reserves for the Children’s Famine. The "Africa crisis" video on Cincinnati's web site tells the story.
HORN OF AFRICA UPDATE (Sept. 28th, 2011)
Probably the worst food crisis in the world today is found in the Horn of Africa where severe drought has put up to 12 million people in danger because of a lack of food and clean water. It has been estimated that 1.4 million children are affected by this crisis, as many as 35,000 children under five have already died, and that number is being added to as 2,500 more children die each day.
Kids Against Hunger has responded to this crisis. The Kids Against Hunger satellite in Cincinnati (OH) - in partnership with World Help - has already shipped six containers of food - that is a total of 2.5 million meals. Of those meals, approx. 1.5 million meals came from various Kids Against Hunger locations across the U.S. - including three containers of food provided by the New New Hope (MN) Headquarters from the "Million Meal" packaging event that was held in Knoxville (TN) as part of "Worship in the City" on Aug. 26th and 27th.
With the help of several members of the Kids Against Hunger satellite network, we are working on sending a total of 15 containers of food (over four million meals) over the next several weeks. We will continue to provide meals as funding allows.
RECENT FOOD SHIPMENTS (Sept. 27th, 2011)
In August, we shipped meals to the following countries:
Somalia: 841,104 meals
Nicaragua: 285,120 meals
Liberia: 7,128 meals
USA: 4,320 meals
Ethiopia: 1,080 meals
In addition to the food listed above which was shipped from our New Hope and Mankato (MN) warehouses, our 87 food packaging satellites across the U.S. and Canada have shipped millions of meals to numerous countries.
NEW BOARD MEMBERS (Sept. 19th, 2011)
Please welcome our two newest board members: Dr. Don Burwell and Dan Davis.
Dr. Don Burwell became a board member earlier this month. He is the Founder and Senior Minister of Bethel Christian Ministries, located in Oak Park (MI). He has also held numerous executive level positions in large corporations prior to his retirement from the for-profit industry. His experience in the corporate world includes finance, marketing, general management, human resources, operations management, and new business development.
Dr. Burwell founded and serves as President and CEO for the Kids Advancing Hope Coalition. He has taught as a professor of Family Life Education at Spring Arbor University. He has also served as a member of the National Council on Family Relations. Dr. Burwell founded the "Kids Against Hunger - Coalition of Michigan" in 1998 and is supervising the daily operations of the food packaging satellites and mobile packaging units in Michigan. Dr. Burwell and his wife Barbara reside in Lathrup Village (MI). They have three adult children and eight grand children.
Dan Davis joined the Board of Directors in June. He has over thirty years of experience in business operations and is very passionate about Kids Against Hunger. He worked for 3M for 20 years in operations and product development, owned Lawrence Sign Company in St. Paul (MN), and held operations management positions with Otto Bock Healthcare and Anchor Block Company. He is currently employed by Nolato Contour Plastics in Baldwin (WI) as Vice President of Operations. Dan first got involved with Kids Against Hunger through our St. Croix Valley (MN) satellite.
One million meals packaged in two days (Sept. 9th, 2011)
The Tennessee Volunteers came out in droves as they celebrated at Knoxville’s World’s Fair Park to "Feed the Need". This new event complemented Knoxville's "Worship in the City" music festival held in the Park on August 26th and 27th. In two days, and over the course of 12 shifts, more than 2,500 volunteers packaged enough Kids Against Hunger food to reach their goal of 1,000,000 meals. The majority of those meals have already been shipped out help families in Somalia and the refugee camps in Kenya where the famine in the Horn of Africa has killed 30,000 kids under the age of 5 in the last 90 days. Ten percent of the meals will be distributed in the Knoxville area through Second Harvest of East Tennessee.
This city-sponsored event would not have been possible without the efforts of Jim and Lori Klonaris and Convention Center Chef Christopher Moore who worked to organize the event, package meals, provide the venue, and to recruit volunteers. We can’t thank them enough and hope to see them again next year.
STARVATION IN AFRICA (AUG. 11TH, 2011)

It is estimated that up to twelve million Somalis, Kenyans, and Ethiopians are starving due to the worst drought since the 1950s. We at Kids Against Hunger believe that starvation is wrong.
Our Cincinnati Kids Against Hunger satellite has committed to provide over four million meals for the refugees in the Horn of Africa through a partnership with WorldHelp. WorldHelp has agreed to coordinate the shipments of our highly nutritious meals to the refugee camps in Kenya along its border with Somalia. Over half a million meals are being shipped this week. Our Cincinnati satellite is asking for additional packaged meals from the entire Kids Against Hunger Satellite network to fulfill their commitment.
In addition to these refugee camps, Kids Against Hunger is working with World Mission Outreach and Global Aid Network put together a plan to provide one million meals to feeding partners within Somalia.
What can YOU do to partner with us to provide food relief in this area of the world?
- Tell all your FaceBook friends about the work we do by sharing this post on your FaceBook page.
- DONATE to pay for the ingredients so we can package more highly nutritious meals. All of our meals are packaged by volunteers for only 23 cents per meal. $50.00 pays for one box of meals which feeds over 200 people.
- Sign up to PACKAGE MEALS on our website at new Somalia specific sessions if you live in the greater Twin Cities Metro Area. If you live outside of Minnesota, you can find the satellite location nearest you on our web site and contact them to find out when they have open packaging sessions.
Thank you for partnering with us to assist with this crisis!
RICHARD PROUDFIT HONORED AT KARE 11'S "ELEVEN WHO CARE" RECOGNITION EVENT (JUNE 23RD, 2011)
Everyone who knows Richard Proudfit (Kids Against Hunger's Founder) personally knows that he does not like to "make a big deal" out of his boundless and life-long commitment to ending child hunger and the countless sacrifices he has made along the way. Well, last night Richard Proudfit was an honoree at KARE 11's "Eleven Who Care" Recognition Program and there are thousands of people across the U.S. and in many countries overseas whose lives have been touched by Richard's efforts and who will agree that this was a well-deserved honor.

Each year, KARE 11 recognizes the amazing efforts of eleven grassroots volunteers and promotes the spirit of volunteerism that is so important to this community. Through the "Eleven Who Care" program, the volunteers' individual stories air throughout the year on KARE 11 newscasts. Each month a different honoree is featured during a special "Eleven Who Care KARE 11 Extra." In addition, a $1,100 donation is made to a non-profit organization in each honoree's name. Since its inception, the program has recognized over 286 outstanding volunteers.
Richard's story will air in October. We will keep you posted.
RESPONSE TO TORNADOS IN JOPLIN AND NORTH MINNEAPOLIS (JUNE 2ND, 2011)
This weekend, we are packaging meals with Medtronic and other groups to send a container of food (285,120 meals) to the Pentecostal Church of God in Joplin (MO) to support the feeding program through August.
