ONE MILLION MEAL PACKAGING EVENT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH "RACHEL'S CHALLENGE"
On May 6th, 2010, Rockwall (Texas) ISD will put its theme of "Others Before Self" to work by recruiting volunteers from throughout the community to package a million meals in a day for local food banks and families in Haiti. Hundreds of students, teachers, staff and public volunteers will make this miracle in conjunction with Kids Against Hunger and Rachel's Challenge, a school program that encourages kindness and compassion in honor of Rachel Scott, one of the students killed in the Columbine shooting.
The school district currently is seeking hundreds of volunteers to help complete this third annual communitywide project. Anyone who will be able to volunteer to help package meals should log on to the Rockwall ISD Web site and click on the “Million Meals Volunteer Form” located on the home page. There are three time slots available — 9-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. Volunteers are welcome to work multiple time slots.
The cost for each meal is 23 cents, and the district has received a donation that will cover half of the total cost. Currently, the district is lining up underwriters to fund the remaining meals.

"Fill Their Plate Run" 5K/10K FOR HAITI
The Kids Against Hunger - South Minneapolis satellite sent 850,000 meals to Haiti in 2009, with plans to ship over one million meals in 2010 - and you can be a part of it! Take a Saturday morning to participate in a great event for a great cause. All proceeds for the run will go towards purchasing food for the "Fill Their Plate" 100,000 Meal Packathon on Saturday, June 19th, 2010. But don’t wait for the Packathon to join in - we will have packing lines going on site, both during and after the runs.
Then on June 19th, come join us for our third annual Summer Packathon! Depending on the success of the Run and our sponsorships, we hope to purchase enough food supplies to pack 100,000 meals in one day!
