Can I make a donation in honor/memory of someone?
Yes. When making your donation through this web site, select “in
honor/memory of” in the “Donation is” field
and enter the person’s name. Please enter that person’s
street address if you would like us notify him/her. Making a
donation in honor/memory of someone is optional (that field does
not have to be completed in order for the donation to be processed).
How much of my donation is actually used to provide meals for those in need?
Because of Kids Against Hunger’s volunteer-driven program, very little of your contribution is used for overhead expenses. As the corporate office for Kids Against Hunger, we provide central services to our satellite locations such as supplier negotiations and purchasing, NGO partner relationships, logistics services, development support, corporate and organizational relationships and partnerships, policies and best practices, and marketing support. Most of these services are provided at straight cost or free of charge to our satellites. Additionally, we research new satellite locations and do satellite set ups at cost. As a result, our corporate financial statements usually show a fairly high overhead structure (approx. 17% for 2009). We operate on the minimal staffing needed to complete the tasks required. Since the majority of our satellite locations are staffed by volunteers, we produced the 48 million meals packaged in 2009 (at an estimated value of approximately eight million Dollars) with a salary structure of only $362,000. In light of services rendered for satellite support and expanding the satellite network - which has doubled in each of the past three years - our overhead expenses are minimal.
Is your financial information listed on any of the official charity review web sites?
Kids Against Hunger is listed on GuideStar. We have submitted an application to be listed on Charity Navigator's web site as well. You can also find an organizational summary and financial information on the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General's web site.
Is my donation to Kids Against Hunger tax deductible?
Yes. Kids Against Hunger has been recognized by the State of Minnesota on a state-level
and by the IRS on a federal level as being tax exempt (under section 501(c)(3)
of the Internal Revenue Code) and is approved for tax deductible donations.
I made a donation to Kids Against Hunger last year, but have not received
a year-end tax receipt. Why?
We generally acknowledge each donation right away and either mail or e-mail you
an acknowledgment within days of receiving your contribution. That letter can
serve as your tax receipt at year-end. To keep administrative expenses to a minimum,
we do not send additional year-end receipts unless requested by the contributor.
To request a year-end donation receipt for tax purposes, please contact
our office
staff.
